Kerman - Kirman Rugs

This attractive and tonally muted Kerman from southeast Persia was woven when densely covered grounds were particularly popular. The field color is a soft light teal with accents of dark brown, old gold, ivory and light green. The main border is equally filled with flowering vines and other elements repeating those of the field. Almost randomly, motives outlined in dark brown seem to drift in and out of focus. The allover pattern has rosettes, leaves and layers of vines. The color variation or abrash is fairly subtle and is not the usual horizontal band variety, all too obvious in carpets with diverse dye lots. The soft, almost feminine palette makes this rug ideal for a boudoir, dressing room or bed chamber.

Vacuum your rug frequently and use a vacuum which uses suction and does not have bristles. If possible, set vacuum to low power setting and vacuum the rug up and down and do not use a back-and-forth motion.

If possible, rotate the rug every few years to allow foot traffic to be spread evenly and shade the rug from direct sunlight to avoid fading in areas.

A rug pad is recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping and stop marking if on floors with grooves or lines. Professional cleaning is recommended every two or three years.
