Baktiari Rugs

Handwoven Persian Baktiari rug with a garden design. The compartmentalized sections contain different designs with flowers fish etc. The Baktiari area (Chahar Mahal), in central Persia near Isfahan, produces both village and nomadic carpets with bright colors, allover lattice patterns and sturdy constructions. Antique carpets have been woven there since the 19th century. Originally the patterns were adapted from classical Persian carpets, but rapidly evolved into a truly unique style of rustic carpets. Square room sizes are popular and carpets up to 30 feet long are woven. The best qualities were made for the Baktiari tribal leaders or khans. The wool is excellent and derives from local tribal sheep, resilient and elastic. The colors are vibrant and saturated. Color: red/ivory/blue

Vacuum your rug frequently and use a vacuum which uses suction and does not have bristles. If possible, set vacuum to low power setting and vacuum the rug up and down and do not use a back-and-forth motion.

If possible, rotate the rug every few years to allow foot traffic to be spread evenly and shade the rug from direct sunlight to avoid fading in areas.

A rug pad is recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping and stop marking if on floors with grooves or lines. Professional cleaning is recommended every two or three years.
