Silk Rugs

This is a classic silk Tabriz from the most desirable period of Tabriz weaving. The complex layered medallion is framed by extended quarter motives in the traditional style. The rust red field is open except for a simple floral spray in each corner. The pattern is scale free in that it could be from a large carpet just as easily as this rug. Many Tabriz patterns share this useful property. The border is closely covered by palmettes short vines and various flowers. The plain rust outer stripe is characteristic of Tabriz silks and synchronizes with the field. The weave is fine with about 400 knots per square inch on beige colored silk warps. The condition is exemplary with the elaborate knotted net ends intact. This rug shows no signs of wear to the closely clipped pile and it may have spent most of its life on a wall or table. Although extremely formal this piece has a chameleon like character of working with any room decor in which it finds itself. There are no modern silk Tabriz rugs of similar character.

Vacuum your rug frequently and use a vacuum which uses suction and does not have bristles. If possible, set vacuum to low power setting and vacuum the rug up and down and do not use a back-and-forth motion.

If possible, rotate the rug every few years to allow foot traffic to be spread evenly and shade the rug from direct sunlight to avoid fading in areas.

A rug pad is recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping and stop marking if on floors with grooves or lines. Professional cleaning is recommended every two or three years.
