This Second Empire style carpet begins in the center with a simple floral bouquet and become increasingly formal as one proceeds outwards. A slender frame nearly covered by posies and scroll highlighted by four oval garland cartouches. In turn this is framed by a wide almost three dimensional book corner strap work cartouche rounded on this vertical and horizontal axes and angled corner. Urns spilling exuberant floral explosions further enhance the corners. The ivory ground contrast with the simple acanthus border. The overall effect is light airy and spring like. In Aubusson s the flowers are always in bloom and spring is in the air.
